Reddit’s 1,000 saved posts limit, and how to get older saves back
Updated 2026-10-12
The short answer: Reddit’s saved list only reaches back about 1,000 items. Saves older than that are still on your account, just out of sight. Reddit’s data request lists all of them, and Bookmark Hero can turn that list back into posts you can read and search.
Why your old saves seem to disappear
Reddit builds many of its lists, the saved list among them, as precomputed listings, and its original open-source code cut those listings at 1,000 items (reddit-archive, precompute_limit = 1000). People still run into it today: once you pass about a thousand saves, the oldest ones stop appearing at the bottom of your saved page, in the app, and to tools that read the same list. Reddit does not publish the number in its help center, so treat it as observed behaviour rather than a documented rule.
Nothing is deleted. Unsaving recent items does not bring old ones back into view either, because the list is cut by position, not by space.
How to see every save: the data request
- On a computer, open reddit.com/settings/data-request and request your data.
- Wait. Reddit says it can take up to 30 days; the link arrives in your Reddit inbox (Reddit Help).
- Download the archive. Your saves are in
saved_posts.csvandsaved_comments.csv.
The catch: those files list each save by its id and link, not its title or text. You have every save, but not in a form you can read or search.
Getting them back with Bookmark Hero
- Install Bookmark Hero and switch on Reddit. It reads your saved posts, saved comments, and upvotes with the login your browser already has, back as far as Reddit’s list goes.
- When your data request arrives, open Settings → Modules, find the Reddit card’s “Older than the site shows?” box, and add
saved_posts.csvandsaved_comments.csv. - Bookmark Hero fetches each post and comment in the files at a polite pace and puts them on your shelf with their title, text, subreddit, and pictures. A post that has been deleted since is kept as a placeholder, so you still know it was there.
From then on every new save arrives by itself, and the shelf keeps all of them, however many there are. The 1,000 limit is Reddit’s list, not yours.

Searching them
Reddit’s saved page has no search. On the shelf, type any word from a post or comment, or narrow with module:reddit, a collection, an author, a folder, or a date range. Everything is stored in your browser; nothing about your saves is sent to us.
In short
- Reddit shows about the last 1,000 saves; older ones are hidden, not gone.
- The data request lists all of them, as ids and links.
- Bookmark Hero imports that list, fetches every post, and keeps every save from then on, searchable and exportable for free.
